Diff window not working for VSS files

My project has the following configuration:

Type of VCS: Visual SourceSafe
Project: $/ADEPT47
Checkout mode: Automatically on server
Checkout directory: <blank>
If I look at the change history, I can see an entry such as: edited
Development/CommonModules/basEngine.bas

Clicking the filename opens the diff window, but the diff window says
"ERROR: VSS execution error: Path was not found in the SourceSafe.Get
operation failed" in both the before and after sections.
