Emailing build artifacts as attachments

We'd like to include generated charts attached to our build completion email notifications.  Can you suggest some solutions we might consider?  At this point, it seems easiest to use a command-line step to invoke a mail client to do this.  We would like to selectively do this for some of our build configurations.
