Custom Chart UI: Add patterned statistic value

Hi,

We have a need to use a patterned statistic value for a custom chart.  According to the docs, you can only do this through the plugin-settings.xml file.  But the way our organization is set up, this file is off limits to us developers.  Is there a workaround for using a patterned statistic value without modifying the xml file?  If not, will you be adding this feature to the UI soon, we really need it.
