Rollback Plan for TeamCity Auto-Upgrade from 2025.11.4 to 2026.1.3

Hi TeamCity Support/Community,

Our TeamCity server is currently on 2025.11.4, and it is planned/expected to be automatically upgraded to 2026.1.3 (Build 222742).

We would like to understand the recommended rollback/recovery procedure in case we encounter issues after the upgrade.

Specifically, could you please advise on:

  1. What is the officially recommended rollback procedure from 2026.1.3 to 2025.11.4?
  2. Is it supported to downgrade TeamCity to the previous version after the upgrade?
  3. Are there any database schema/configuration changes introduced during the upgrade that would prevent restoring the previous TeamCity version?
  4. What backup should be taken before the auto-upgrade (database, TeamCity Data Directory, configuration, etc.) to ensure a complete rollback?
  5. If the upgrade fails or the server becomes unstable, what is the recommended recovery sequence?
  6. Is there any TeamCity-specific documentation covering the upgrade rollback/recovery plan for this scenario?

Our main concern is having a validated rollback plan before allowing the automatic upgrade to 2026.1.3 (Build 222742).

Any guidance or best practices would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

Please refer to the documentation for the upgrade steps and the recommendations for the backup: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/teamcity/upgrading-teamcity-server-and-agents.html#Before+Upgrade
The rollback is also described in the documentation: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/teamcity/upgrading-teamcity-server-and-agents.html#Server+Rollback
It requires a full data backup, as the upgrade process changes the TeamCity data format, and the data format downgrade is not possible.

Best regards,
Anton
