Feature Suggestion: Better Integration with LDAP Groups

Answered

Groups integration with LDAP needs some work.  Most products just allow selecting a group from a pick list. Having to login into the host server to update xml files is really clunky!  (As explained here: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/teamcity/ldap-integration.html#User+Group+Membership)

I should just be able to add an LDAP group using the UI.  For example, this screen should just allow me to add a LDAP group:

This is common functionality in most products I have worked with.

Hi, thanks for your suggestion. We have a similar feature request here: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/TW-12599.

Please vote on the feature request to show your interest and to be automatically notified of any updates. We use our YouTrack site to determine which features are included in future releases. I've left an internal reference to this support thread on the feature request.

Looks like LDAP integration is not a priority for JetBrains.  Looking through the feature requests, there are two entries related to this.  They have been open 9 and 11 YEARS.

I am going to go with the assumption that if they have not bubbled to the top of the priority list in the last decade, my request is not going to have much impact :)

I'm not sure of the reasons for these two feature requests not being selected, but the information on the YouTrack site is used to make these decisions. It could be that there just hasn't been enough interest in it or maybe there is some other reason for it. If this is something that is important to you, please consider leaving a comment on the YouTrack feature requests. These comments go directly to our developers and it is really the best way to communicate with them regarding specific needs and use cases. Also, new comments show that there is still interest in these older feature requests. :)

Some of the other JetBrains products do include a UI to configure LDAP settings, such as JetBrains Hub. Additionally, it is possible to use JetBrains Hub as an authentication module for TeamCity with the JetBrains Hub Integration plugin. This would open up the door for things such as a single point of user management and SSO across the JetBrains team tools and any other applications that support SAML 2.0.
