Perforce issue: error in client specification

Perforce checkout fails with error "Error in client specification". I tried using Client with a valid name of an existing client workspace. I tried using Client Mapping. The result is the same.
Can anyone tell me how to find out any details of this error? Why can it happen if I select Client, and TeamCity should not deal with client specifications?

Hi,
You should be able to see some details about the error in the <TeamCity home directory>/logs/teamcity-vcs.log file. Additionally, you can try enabling the debug-vcs logging preset and running the p4 commands you see in the mentioned log manually on the build agent. That could help you to isolate the issue.
Once you finish troubleshooting, be sure to revert the logging preset changes.
