All builds showing "Log of this build was removed" in Build Log

Answered

Hi

I am getting "Log of this build was removed" on all my builds with no logging. The build log is showing up in buildAgent\logs\teamcity-build.log but not in the UI.

I've already run clean-up on the root-proj.

I am using version 2019.2. Is this a known issue?

Regards

Hello,

This could happen if the build logs were removed during clean-up. Could you please send over a screenshot of the clean-up rules on any project where build logs were removed? (both set on project and inherited)

Hi

The cleanup was done after I was getting the problem initially as I thought it was running out of space.

I am still getting this on all current running builds.

Hello,

Just to confirm - so if you open a running build it has nothing under Build Log tab but the above message?

If not:
Could you please let me know if server cleanup is running on schedule for you or if it is off the schedule? By default it is scheduled to run daily, and if there are clean-up rules which allow to discard the build logs this could lead to the observed behavior.

If yes:
In a more general sense, this message will present if build log files are missing from <TeamCity Data Directory>/system/artifacts/<Project>/<Build Configuration>/<BuildID>/.teamcity/logs (the build logs are stored as hidden artifacts). Could you please check what do you see under the above path for any affected build configuration? How is the TeamCity server started? (i.e. under which user identity)

Yes

In my team city data dir I see uptill <TeamCity Data Directory>/system/artifacts/, after that it only has one of the Projects out of the two that are seen in the UI, and only a folder for only one of the build configurations while I have nine active ones. This only has some folders and logs that are very old.

under the user admins account on startup

Thank you for the details. I would like to ask you to enable debug-general logging preset (https://www.jetbrains.com/help/teamcity/teamcity-server-logs.html), run a single test build and send over the teamcity-server.log file from the <TeamCity server>/logs folder (you can do so in a private manner via Submit a request form at the top of the page), so that I could have a better picture on the issue.

This happened on our server when the disk that was configured for artifacts storage was unavailable.

Hello,

The issue is somewhat expected if TeamCity is unable to save the build log (as it is stored along with the other build artifacts - see this article for the details: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/teamcity/build-artifact.html#BuildArtifact-HiddenArtifacts).
