How do I add a branch to the branch specification of a VCS through REST API?

Hi,

We manually add a branch to the branch specification of a VCS root when needed. However the process breaks if I am not around. Is there a way I can add a branch to the branch specification of a VCS root through REST API, so that I can write a program for the developers to enter a branch?
