Maximum number of agents

Hi,

 

Is there soft/hard limit on number of agents connected to single TC server instance please? I would like to understand how TC scales in this matter. Can we have 500, 1000 or even more agents on single TC server? Thanks a lot!

Hi Martin,

 

There is no theoretical cap. The more agents there is, the more bandwidth and server processing power that will be used. If you are going over 400, you might want to consider the running builds node: https://confluence.jetbrains.com/display/TCD18/Configuring+Running+Builds+Node

 

From experience, we have seen installations with over 1000 that work fine, just keep in mind the resources requirement. Hope this helps.

That's perfect, thanks for your response. Considering we would set up new TC server, do we need any special license for this? I'm trying to project cost for this solution. We currently have 70+ licensed agents, do we need to buy some more to support this additional node or can we reuse license we have in our existing TC node? Thanks.

Hi,

 

having multiple nodes shares the licenses between the nodes, as they are considered part of a single installation, with different nodes running different responsibilities. This is different to having multiple independent installations, where a license is required for each separate installation.
