Import projects from expired Team City instances to our new enterprise Team City server.

Hi, our new enterprise Team City server and build agents have become very popular and we have multiple teams that would like to import projects from their old Team City servers.  Their licenses have expired and their old servers need to be upgraded to match our Team City version, correct?

What do we need to do to get their old servers upgraded just long enough for them to upgrade and export the needed projects?

Best regards,

Terry

Hi Terry,

They can upgrade easily even with expired licenses. Builds won't work if they have more agents or build configurations that allowed by the professional edition (or by some of their licenses if some still haven't expired), but the information will still be available to export. If they want to keep working with their old licensed servers, an easy option would be:
-Make a backup of the current server.
-Restore the backup on a separate server, without the license
-Upgrade the second server only.
-Use this second server to export the projects.

More information on copying projects from one server to another: https://confluence.jetbrains.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=74845225#HowTo...-MoveTeamCityProjectsfromOneServertoAnother

Note how to move projects manually, build needs to be the same, but to import projects it's enough with major.minor version being the same, bugfix releases can be different.
