Which TeamCity version are you using? Did you check in your browser's developer tools for any errors in the network tab or in the console? Please check also if there are any relevant errors in the teamcity-server.log and teamcity-vcs.log during the time period in which the error occurs. Finally, did you check if you experience the same issue when creating a new VCS root and clicking on the Bitbucket icon next to the Repository URL input?
