Teamcity works fine, claims mysql as database, but teamcity database is empty when viewed from mysql workbench

Answered

I have a teamcity install (9.0.3 (build 32334)) that I did a year or so ago (I think) that I've been looking into upgrading to the latest version. When I went to do a backup from the Web UI I get an error:

Preparing: failed
UnexpectedDBException: Unexpected exception MySQLSyntaxErrorException: SQL error when doing: Executing a SQL statement SQL query: truncate table backup_builds SQL exception: Table 'teamcity.backup_builds' doesn't exist
caused by MySQLSyntaxErrorException: Table 'teamcity.backup_builds' doesn't exist

After seeing this I logged into my mysql instance with the teamcity credentials and checked the database. It shows no tables, at all. When I look in the global settings it claims it's using mysql and the connection settings all look correct in the database.properties file.

Everything else works fine. It builds the two projects I've got set up, it seems to keep the build history and everything so I'm not sure where it's storing that data but it definitely doesn't seem to be in mysql like it thinks.

Hi Eric,

Could you please attach zipped <TeamCity installation directory>/logs directory from TeamCity server machine?

Hello Alina,

I attempted to attach the zip of the logs directory but it won't let me upload anything besides an image file.

Since I couldn't attach it directly I've uploaded it to dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/omvi08uv71rl03t/teamcityLogs.zip?dl=0

Thanks.

Hi Eric,

According to the logs there is not enough memory. Please increase memory settings as suggested in the section, e.g. you can start with: -Xmx1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=270m.
Please let me know if it helps.

Looks like changing the memory unearthed a few other issues we had on the server. Our MYSQL install was corrupt. Reinstalling it fixed the problem and we've got a working teamcity install again! thanks for your help.

Thank you for the update! Glad that issue was resolved.
