How to tailor external status display beyond css?

Hi,
I really like the externalStatus display - that's a really neat feature!
I included it as an iframe in our internal mediawiki. However, following
the links in the status display open the pages in the iframe.

As there doesn't seem to exist something like a css property such as
"target:_top", I don't know how to modify the html code of the links so
that they open in the top window (i.e. leave the iframe).

Is there a way to customize the output of the externalStatus script such
as adding a target attribute to the generated links?

Thanks,
Axel
