Visual Studio 2008 Solution and VisualStudio TestTools

Hi

We have a Visual Studio 2008 solution building nicely in TeamCity but we are unable to get our tests to run. We are not using NUnit, we've gone with the Microsoft TestTools instead.

The error we get is

error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'VisualStudio' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft'

Are we missing a configuration setting in TeamCity or do we need to manually add the VisualStudio.TestTools assembly (by installing Visual Studio on our build server or some other means)

Thanks

Hi

I have exactly the same issue!
I think that having to install Visual Studio on the build server is overkill! I hope there is another solution!

I think having it on the build server is the only option. Without the references and the engine itself to run the tests, there is no way for Team City to run the tests. I can't run a VSTS on my laptop unless I have the testing engine on the laptop - its a matter of licensing.

It seems like Team City is a great tool that takes enables different systems to work together for CI, its like a traffic cop. If something fails, you can't move on. If project B needs the results from project A, it can get that result and place it where project B needs it to be able to compile. It is up to us to tell Team City what build agents can do what (can an agent do an VSTS or can it only compile non-test projects) and Team City handles the rest.
