Notifier settings

We have suddenly started getting this error displayed on the projects page and in a few other places.

Failed to send email notification via SMTP server mail, due to error:  Unknown SMTP host: mail;   nested exception is:       java.net.UnknownHostException: mail

Sure enough the EMail Notifier is not configured on the server and as our mail servers do not allow a non-existent account to be used for emails. I don't want to use the administrators email and passwords stored on the server for email notifications. Basically we don't want to allow email notifications, but possibly someone has tried to set up email notifications. So to the questions:

Will this error message occur even if no-one has attempted to use an email notifier?
Can I easily find out who has email notifiers configured?
More generally, is there a way for an administrator to view user's notifier settings from the server?
How else can I get rid of this error message without configuring an email account?

Thanks in advance

Hi William,

Yes, right now in case of notification error, the message is shown to all users. We have an issue on this matter: http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/TW-11515. Please vote for it.

There are non-notification related errors, which are also shown in UI, but email or jabber error messages occur only after unsuccessful attempt to send it.

The universal solution would be to connect to the database and select users with configured notification rules.
Since 5.1 we provide more details into the log, so it think it wouldn't be difficult to find the user.

Yes, each user has a "Notification Rules" tab. But you'll have to look through all users.

I think you solve the problem radically: unplug the email plugin.

I see this has now been fixed. Thanks.
