TeamCity plug in for Visual Studio 2008 and 2010

Hi,

I am trying to test TeamCity with Visual Studio but seem unable to get the plug in to work.

I have tried it with both VS 2010 and 2008 but it does not allow me to select the Login option. All options, except help (which deosn't) are greyed out. Any ideas? Team City looks great via its own interface but I need it to work with Visual Studio.

Also, in VS 2010, if I look at Options it only shows Perforce and Subversion as options for its VCS.  I can't find this option in VS 2008 so not sure what options it give me from there. How does it plug in to TFS from Visual Studio? I think I'm going mad... help ...

Thanks.

Lyn.

TeamCity add-in depends on VS solution, so you need to open solution one for your solution.

To use it with TFS, Team Explorer must be installed.

Hope this help,
Marina

So I got it to login. Thanks. Now I can't get my change to work. VS is not my normal IDE so excuse the basic questions. I've tried the docs but they only seem to tel you what to do it if all works.

If you mean the Team Explorer in VS, then yes, it is installed. But no matter what I do I can't get 'my change' to recognise any changes I make. :-(

Lyn, did you set up "Version Control Username Settings"? Take a look here for details.

TeamCity add-in uses TFS settings, setted up in Team Explorer. Seems, in your case, there is no TFS workspace, accotiated with your opened VS solution.
In TeamCity add-in 5.1.x we do not show any UI for TFS options, and this fact could confuse our users. So we added TFS options page in 6.0 EAP version. Take a look at issue in our tracker for details.

I have got a workspace set up. VS is working fine, with respect to its normal actions. Now 'My changes' are working but local is still not picking up modified files that are not checked in. So, Local build is not yet enabled.

The set up is getting there slowly. Thanks for the patience.

Lyn, does 'Pending Changes' tool window (from Team Explorer) detect your changes?
What version of TemCity add-in do you evaluate?

yes, pending changes does show my changes.

I used the plug in that came with 5.1.4. Now I'm trying V6 but still having trouble. It still can't see my workspace and won't let me configure it.

Regardless 6.0 EAP version... What do you see on TFS options page in TeamCity add-in options dialog? What message do you see in Local changes tool window?
Could you please post logs here. You could find them in %Temp%\JetLogs directory.

I can see a message on the local changes screen that says No Version controls are enabled in Team City Options

Options dialogue shows Can't locate current Team Foundation Server Workspace

Log file attached. Lots of error messages by the looks of it.

thanks.

Lyn, seems your solution doesn't relate to any TFS workspace (wasn't added to source control by Visual Studio UI).
If so, please try context menu action "Add Solution to Source Control..." in Solution Explorer, avaliable for root node.

I added usability issue to our tracker, for problem, you are faced with. Please fell free to watch / vote / comment it.

It is finally looking much better now. Local build is working fine. It seems to be very fussy about workspaces, even ones that are not related to the one I am using, for some reason.

Still,  Thanks for the help.
