Server Maintenance - Really Needed Daily?

Hi,

We have 50 agents and about 200 users.  We run server maintenance once per day.  But, our users are spread all over the world.  We really don't have any time during the day when the system is idle.  Someone is always negatively effected by stopping the server.

Is it practical to run maintenance every other day, or maybe once per week? Would that cause problems?

There are several related issues in our tracker:

If server produces many builds it is better to run cleanup each day, otherwise, the whole process can take significantly more time. BTW, how much time it takes in your case?

Hi Pavel,

Good question.  I'm not exactly sure how long ours takes.  Less than an hour.

I hate to answer a question with a question, but is there a way to figure that out by looking at the server log?

You can see how much time the last cleanup took on the build history cleanup page.

Thanks!

It took 22 minutes this AM to cleanup.  That is probably not the normal time. There isn't much activity right now since its the holidays.  So, I'd say a normal cleanup is probably no more than double that number.

Right now all I can suggest is to vote for the most appropriate issue. I hope we find a solution for distributed teams like yours, although it definitely won't happen in 7.0 release.

Done!  TW-2527 makes the most sense to me.

Is this option something we could try until TW-2527 is implemented?
