How to make Remote Run Command Line Tool use Active Directory Authentication?

Hi,

I am using the Remote Run Command Line tool in an automated way, to have developers verify their changes before they submit.

We just updated Team City to version 7.0, and we are now using Active Directory authentication.

Is there any way to make the remote run command line tool use Active Directory authentication?

If I log out and run the tool, it tells me I need to login.

I can get the username from the system, and pass it in, and the tool will then ask me for the password, which is acceptable, but I can't (obviously) programmatically get the password from the system, and pass it in as a parameter.

I'd like to know if there is a way for the developers to not have to explicitly login to Team City to be able to use the tool, and if we could just use Active Directory Authentication in a seamless way.

Cheers,

Simona

Hi Simona

At the moment the tool is not integrated with AD authentication.
The password should be entered just once, is that an issue?

Hi Michael,

thank you for your reply.

It's not a problem, but it's an extra case to work around for the tool I've written.
And I'm sure the windows authentication could be integrated, while now users have to worry about entering their password, albeit not very often.
I'm assuming they'll have to do so every time they change their password? This in our corpnet is enforced every 3 months, so that's a bit more annoying than only once.

Am I right in thinking there is no windows authentication for the web UI either?

It feels like this is a bit of a halfway solution: we use Active Directory to get usernames and validate passwords, but we are asking users to input their very precious password into a black box (the tcc.jar tool, or the Team City webinterface) we have no control over, and although this is all under corpnet it doesn't feel very safe.
If we could simply utilise the automatic windows authentication, it would be much better.

Cheers,

Simona
