Sparse checkout from Git ?

Is there a way to configure sparse checkouts from Git in Teamcity. We were using subversion and have recently migrated to Git. There was no problem configuring Teamcity to checkout a subfolder in Subversion, but after migrating to Git we are not able to do that anymore. Is there any way to checkout a subfolder other than creating a separte Git for each.
