Is it normal for build agents to peg my cpu at 100%?

When I go to the agents tab, I see my agents listed and they're using pretty close to 100% cpu when they're idle. I've actually seen it go above 100% at times. Is this normal behavior? Is there a way to configure the agents to only use the cpu that they need?

DEVACI01 - Agent 1 39 Idle
DEVACI01 - Agent 2 20 Idle
DEVACI01 - Agent 3 16 Idle

Thanks,

Hello Dan,

In fact, this is not the agent CPU load, but a relative metric for build agent performance.
  No reason to worry

I guess I misrepresented what I was worried about with that table. It sounds like that doesn't have to do with cpu utilization.

There is a real question about utilization though. When I use task manager to check on the running processes I see five processes that only use about 5k of RAM, but will use between 10% and 30% each of cpu on/off every few seconds. The process name is TC-TFS-NATIVE-128861153988.exe which has a description of TfsNativeVerifier.

Of course when an agent is building, I see csc and and tomcat6 and other processes use a good amount of cpu, but those other processes seem to always use a lot. Any ideas on what it's doing and how to control it?

Thanks,

Dan Lash

Hello,

TeamCity build agents should not consume CPU when they do not build projects.

But TeamCity server will do, because it periodically checks for changes in the version control system.
The named TFS process is invoked to check for changes in TFS version control. The period of the invocation
can be set either globally, or per-VCS root.

Assuming they are behaving, but then, somehow I seem to keep finding my server with a fan running full and a process that has eaten a couple of cores over the last 10 hours and their processes say 'teamcity'...
