Teamcity Agent Fails to Start

I've set upa build agent on a windows server 2003 box.  I have authroized the agent from the server but the agent constantly appears as disconnected.

Upon further investigation i discovered that the Service has been stopped.  No matter how many times i manually start the Service it always stops after a while.

I've attached some of the logs.  But i cant figure out why its stopping the the service.

I've tried re-installing many times as well.

Can anyone help?

Hi!

It seems you have some error in yor log files...

  • Unable to open configuration file. C:\BuildAgent\launcher\conf\wrapper.conf
  • java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\BuildAgent\plugins\cvsAgent\lib\sshtools-zlib.jar (Access is denied)
  • Error deleting file: C:\BuildAgent\update\launcher\lib\wrapper.jar
    Error deleting file: C:\BuildAgent\update\launcher\lib\log4j-1.2.12.jar
  • java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.intellij.util.PatternUtil

I suggest you to check these file paths on your drive, make some clean and reboot your server to release handles on these files if needed.

Make sure you have not multiple processes running before launching again new processes.

Hope it'd help.

Regards,

Olivier.

I did a clean uninstall of the agent, and deleted the c:\buildagent directory.

Now on a fresh install the agent appears to be stuck in some kind of loop.  It constantly downloading some updates, installing, deleting and downloading again.

I've even set C:\BuildAgent directory to Everyone > Full Control.

What's going on?

Hi All,

I've got a very similar problem.

I'm trying to install the Teamcity Agent from our Teamcity Server installation. We are using Teamcity Enterprise 4.5.4 (build 9071).
When I install and start the Teamcity Agent, it goes into an endless loop, where the Teamcity Server pushes an upgrade to the agent. I've also tried installing an older version of the agent, but the same thing happens.

Does anyone idea what the cause could be.

Regards,

RG

rg117, please attach upgrade.log file from <agent>/logs folder.

The issue can be caused by one of the following reasons:
- some file under build agent installation folder is locked for delete or build agent running user account has no rights for that
- there is some process that was started from build agent folder (like ant)

Anton, please check what was the process running from C:\BuildAgent\plugins\ant\bin\ant.cmd?

Hi!

I've just migrated a TeamCity 4.0.2 instance to 4.5.4.

The Build agent seemed to be KO. I had invalid path errors. After correction, and started again from Windows services, it became stopped!
So I looked again at the log. An upgrade process was in progress for a while. Then, ... it became running again in the Windows service and no more disconnected from TeamCity server web interface, but connected and enabled.

So, I just had to be patient.

Hope it'd help,

Olivier.

Hello Olivier,

You were right!. It seems I was just being impatient. I thought it had gone into an endless update loop but infact each iteration was updating something different. So now it works fine.

Many Thanks to everyone that replied.

RG
