6.5 user interface

Is it possible to modify the stylesheets for TeamCity (w/o losing changes when server is updated)? I am not liking the new look.

I agree. Not hating it in any way, but I liked the previous interface better, It looked more modern. A "theme" function, as much as I usually dislike those, would be nice.

I agree as well - the new UI feels like "CI for dummies", since the fonts are generally too large.

The old UI also had a clearer differentiation between the project, build config and actual build status rows when expanded. In the new interface the colours are too similar, making it more difficult to visually distinguish them.

Bottom line? We users hate change.

I agree that the fonts are too big

+1. I have to agree I'm not a big fan of the new skin. Even an unofficial release of the old style for 6.5 would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with this; not only are the fonts and arrows rather large, but there is wasted real-estate between each build configuration and project.  Also, the older UI was easier on the eyes and quicker to find what you were looking for.

Is it possible to replace the UI with the legacy one?

Should we file an issue in youtrack? Is that the proper way to handle change requests?

Hello,

   Thanks for your feedback.
Anytime when there is a change, there are always people who like it and people who hate it.

The old version of UI had some really bad visual effects, consider the following screenshot:

I doubt that you like this view. And I don't think that we'll provide an option to roll back to the old styles.

Rather, we'll improve new ones, and we'll try to solve the usability issues with the new UI.

One of the named problems I've filed as
TW-17077: Need better distinction between build configurations and builds on the overview
   Please vote and comment.

Considerations like "fonts and icons are too large, CI for dummies" are not very interesting,
because they are very subjective. "I want to see more build configurations on the screen at once"
is much more reasonable. And it would be much better if you could provide a screenshot to illustrate
  you specific problem.

  Thanks again for your feedback,
  KIR

Hello Kirill

You are correct, many of these comments are subjective - that is why they are here in a discussions forum instead of being logged as an issue that needs to be tracked. However, we are speaking about a user interface, something that will always be subjective.

Isn't it the intention of the discussion forum to share perceptions and opinions about the product with a view to coming to a consensus as to what we as users would prefer? It would be difficult to come up with a concrete solution without first sharing our subjective views.

That said, it is clear that as a team you have taken a few hits on this release - some fairly and some not. I just want to re-iterate what a fantastic product you have, and how responsive you all are to the issues being logged. It's clear that you all have a vested interest in making this one of the best CI environments out there, and are doing all that you can to achieve that goal.

As a avid TeamCity user, all I can say is keep up the good work and don't let some of our negative comments get you down.

Regards
Adam

I, for one, look forward to change. So the fact that things changed is not what bothers me and I don't necessarily want TeamCity UI to rollback. I actually didn't really care for the dark gray background for projects. Also, I don't hate the new UI, but I think it could use some tweaks. Naturally, that is an opinion and if you were to completely ignore me I would still tell everyone that TeamCity kicks so much ass. Hopefully you guys are taking this as a discussion of silly UI opinions rather than an angry customer calling for your heads. The UI really hasn't changed all that much structure or function wise, so my main gripe is simply the lack of color in the new UI. I don't think I agree with the other posters that the fonts are too large. I prefer larger fonts/links to smaller as it makes a larger click area.

BTW, fantastic job getting the main project listing to load so quickly. I can now put all 110 projects on there and it still loads in about 1sec.

Regarding increased fonts I filed another issue: http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/TW-17280
