TeamCity not automatically running builds for configured branch specification

Hello,

We are running TeamCity 7.1.4 and github enterprise. We want to automatically run builds on the merged code whenever there is a pull request. We found this blog site which described exactly what we are trying to do and the blogger succesfully configured TeamCity using the branch specification feature to automatically run pull request builds.

We have configured TeamCity as described on the blog site, but despite this, we are having a problem. The problem we are facing is that although TeamCity is recognizing the pull request, and picking up the pending changes, and one can see all this in the gui, the builds are not automatically being run. I have to manually trigger them. Is there anyone who may be help me determine what I may have misconfigured or why the builds are not automatically running?

Brandon,

Did you add VCS trigger for the build configuration?

If yes, could you please attach screenshot depicting the settings, pending changes, build queue and build history (including canceld builds)?

Thank you for the reply.

I didn't have one. Once I explicitly added a VCS Build Trigger, the build started firing automatically for the pull branches. So it seems this issue was a configuration problem. I was under the mistaken impression that I didn't have to add an explicit build trigger. My confusion probably had something to do with the fact that I had the TeamCity service hook plugin configured which caused builds to fire automatically on the master.
