What can I do to debug a non functioning plugin?

I tried installing the TFS Issue Tracker plugin, the installation works fine and I can verify that is working by clicking on the "Test" button on the Server Configuration Issue Tracker tab, however the pluging fails to associate work items with builds.

I exchanged messages with the developer of the plugin (see discussion http://devnet.jetbrains.net/message/5284284#5284284) and as far as I can see the tool works as it should when running standalone and the issue seems to occur in the integration of the plugin with TeamCity.

Can anyone point me in the direction at which logs I should check in order to verify that the tool is properly integrated in my TeamCity installation?

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

The ways to debug the plugin and whether it initializes OK depend on the plugin mostly.

If the plugin uses logging, you can change conf\teamcity-server-log4j.xml to include

  <category name="<plugin_package>">
    <priority value="DEBUG"/>
    <appender-ref ref="ROLL"/>
  </category>

Where "<plugin_package>" is the Java package of the plugin. Is probably "tfsIssueTracker" in the case of TFS issue tracker plugin.

More on the logging.
