Force uuid export for .xml version control?

I am currently using TeamCity 2019.2 and have everything version controlled in .xml format. I recently went to reformat all build configuration IDs (renaming the .xml files) in the repository, but after the server picked up those changes, all of the history was gone. My next step was to transfer the uuid's from the old files to the new files, but the uuid fields is not being saved back to the version controlled files nor is it present when exporting directly from the GUI. Any thought on how I can retrieve uuid's from build configs so I can transfer the historical info to a new set of build configs?
