Save image of custom chart

Hi,

I would like to produce a notification email or report that contains charts from different build configurations. From what i've searched in the forum and online the charts are not available in the notification model so would need to write a plugin to extend the notifications template model. At this point this is a bit of an overkill for my available time. 

Another way would be to automatically download a png (or other image format) from a custom chart, is this possible at all? I've tried the right click save image but doesnt download a meaningful image.
